How do we take care of our jewelry?

Jewelry is a valuable accessory in the collection of a woman and a man, whether they have been given to you as gifts, or they are a heirloom or a souvenir of a loved one.

Every piece of jewelry needs special care, attention and love from you who wear it to remain unchanged over time. Below, we present you some tips to take care of your jewelry.

Never:

  • Do not wear jewelry when doing physical activities such as household, gardening or sports activities as they could injure your jewelry and their contact with chemicals or other cleaning fluids would cause them to wear out.
  • Always remove your jewelry before entering a pool with chlorinated water or spa.
  • Do not expose your jewelry to household cleaning products (eg bleach, etc.). Exposure to chemicals can damage or discolor precious metals (gold, silver and platinum), and may damage some colored gems.
  • To ensure the safety of your jewelry, it is best to remove it before the gym or any other sport, as they can be injured.

Always:

  • Apply cosmetics, perfumes, hairsprays and lotions before wearing your jewelry because they often contain chemicals that can damage jewelry. It is advisable to wear them after applying these products in order to limit their exposure to them. Even hand washing or shampooing can leave soap scum under the stones of your favorite ring or various chemicals that can permanently damage the surface of your pearls and other fine or porous gemstones such as turquoise.
  • When removing jewelry, wipe with a clean, soft cloth to remove any oils and sweat.
  • Store them in a box lined with fabric, in special cases or wrap each piece of jewelry separately to avoid creating surface marks.

Cleaning tips:

  • Highly soiled jewelry is best cleaned professionally.
  • Clean jewelry with diamonds but also with synthetic stones, with a soft brush dipped in warm water and mild detergent. Rinse with running water and wipe with a soft cloth.
  • Clean them in a safe place and not in places like the rim of a sink, where your jewelry or some part of it can slip and you can lose it.
  • Clean your jewelry often.
Lotions, soaps and other cosmetics alter the visual properties of diamonds and gemstones, making them look dull.

Proper storage:

  • You get most of the jewelry in the box provided by the store, and this is a perfect place to store it. For example, silver should be kept in a pouch or cloth. Jewelry cases with separate compartments for rings, necklaces and bracelets are also ideal.
  •  When traveling, protect your jewelry from scratches or other impact damage by carrying it in a separate box or case.
